Heroes' Hill - Knockdhu

This weeks show features an old fort on top of Knockdhu in Cairncastle, 1,000 feet above sea level which is on the Co Antrim coast and is thought to be part of the earliest settlements in the area, possibly dating back to 5,000 BC.

Three sides of the hill are very steep, but one is quite flat with trenches and banks and it is this side the programme focuses on looking for remnants of dwellings and items which could depict the settlers’ lifestyle.

Working conditions were particularly harsh for this one with mud being a major feature to the point where even tractors were getting stuck in it as they tried to get the Team and their gear up the hill each day.

Working together with archaeologists from Queens University in Belfast, they had just 3 days to put all the pieces together...
